Where does the Mac App Store download the files to under Lion? I need the DMG file in order to repair something in my system, but how can I access that file?

In Xcode 3.1 up to Xcode 4.6.3, it included the LLVM-GCC compiler, with front ends from the GNU Compiler Collection and a code generator based on LLVM. In Xcode 3.2 and later, it included the Clang C/C/Objective-C compiler, with newly-written front ends and a code generator based on LLVM, and the Clang static analyzer. A trick, originally posted in the Lazarus Forum, shows us that gdb of a previous XCode version can be used. However, downloading XCode 4.6.3 (1.7 Gb), installing and/or extracting the 2 needed files is cumbersome, so I adecided to post a ZIP file here with the 2 files (gdb and gdb-i386-apple-darwin). You do not have to go through the App store, but it requires a free Developer account. 1) Log into the Mac Developer Center 2) Scroll down to the 'Xcode 4.6' section. 3) On the right there is a button to download Xcode 4. 4) Open the DMG.

Direct link with a downloader that can resume is better with bad internet. If you internet downloads corrupted data now and then you'll need a torrent or something like that, but hard to find safe stuff.

You can download dmg file from Apple download section. You need to have Apple account in order to download it. If you don't have it then create a new account.

Login with apple account and you can see list of downloads for apple developers as shown in screenshot.

You can download any Xcode version by simply clicking on dmg file present on right hand side.

Cannot drag dmg to disk utility. If you want to, the first step is to burn DMG to USB or DVD.However, native support for DMG files is only available on Apple's desktop operating system.

You need Apple's Developer License. Go to https://developer.apple.com/downloads/

Or you can go to https://developer.apple.com/ and click Downloads.

Uncheck everything other than Developer Tools. You will see latest XCode on top. Currently it's XCode 6.1 Download it and some supporting stuff like Command line tools, etc.

Apple appears to have changed the format of the download to a compressed file. The common path still holds true though.

Xcode 4.3 is distributes as an application. Not a bundle like Xcode 4.2 and earlier. If you want to reinstall Xcode you can just trash the Xcode application in the /Applications folder and download the application again via the Mac App Store.
